At the event organized by CBF in honor of winning the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Marta spoke in the auditorium of the organization’s headquarters on this Monday (12). She emphasized the strength of Brazilian women’s football, which, according to the greatest player of all time, “is respected again” worldwide after the campaign in France.

Called upon by her teammates to speak on behalf of the group, Queen Marta became emotional and received support from those present in the auditorium.

“The overcoming we had in this competition speaks for itself and is worth much more than a medal or its color. We arrived doubted by many people, being a reason for skepticism, even about reaching the final. Adversities came, and that’s when we showed that we are a team, that we are united, that we are one. We said before leaving Brazil that the National Team was going to the Olympics to play six matches. We said we would reach this final. And we never doubted for a moment,” said Marta, who had to pause her improvised speech at times to catch her breath.

“With every blow we took, we stood up even stronger. So this medal here represents all of that. It represents a struggle that started back then, with the pioneers, with all the difficulties, so that today we could be here celebrating again. Celebrating a victory that belongs to everyone. To all those who have truly supported our sport from the beginning. I am very happy, very proud. I want to thank all my teammates. Our National Team is respected again,” emphasized Marta, who, at 38 years old, performed at a high technical level during the Olympics.

Praise from Dorival

Also present at the event, the coach of the Men’s National Team, Dorival Jr., congratulated and praised each player of the Women’s National Team for their silver medal and echoed Marta’s speech about the significance of the medal for women’s football.

“It’s an example, hard work, overcoming—it’s everything. Everything Marta said here today was fantastic. It’s a silver medal, but for us, it’s worth gold. It’s worth gold for everything that was shown. It’s a tremendous example,” said the coach.
