The world of football is full of legends, but few are as iconic as Marta Vieira da Silva. The Queen, six-time winner of the FIFA The Best award, has once again written her name in history. This time, the Brazilian team’s number 10 shirt became the first active player to be immortalized by football’s highest governing body.

Like Puskás, Marta will now name the award that will recognize the women who score the most beautiful goal. Until this year, men and women competed in the category together.

“It’s very difficult to get on this stage. I’ve already won this award six times, but this here is without a doubt something much more special, difficult to even find words, but I want just as I’m seeing in this honor, I want all women can also see a promising future”, stated the Queen of Football during the ceremony.

Despite having officially said goodbye to the World Cups in 2023, the Queen of Football continues to shine on the pitch at Orlando Pride, in the United States, and seeks to compete in another edition of the Paris Olympic Games.

“I want to thank FIFA and the entire global football community for the honor I am receiving during my lifetime and still active. And I want to say that this, without a doubt, is a great motivation for us to continue seeking to evolve, because there is always something to learn. And in the year of the Olympics, who knows, maybe I’ll play another one and then I’ll have the answers as to whether I’m going to continue or not”, concluded Marta.

In addition to the four lines, the native of Alagoas is an ambassador for UN Women and actively participates in projects focused on other social issues.
