Manchester City came from a goal behind to beat Paris Saint German 2-1 in the Champions League semifinals, securing a two goal advantage in France going into the second leg next week Tuesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side dug deep and fought hard against PSG’s early dominance after they fell behind to Marquinhos’ header effort in the 15th minute. The PSG captain was making his return to the Champions League scene after recovering from injury. It was a game of two halves and City were able to dominate after the break in a quick fashion to turn the first leg tie to their favor.
City, who upped their game going into half time, threatened with an effort from Phil Foden. They were much more positive and calm on the ball in the second half. They eventually got the reward they deserved. In the 64th minute, Kevin de Bruyne sent in a cross that sailed past everyone in the penalty area and a helpless Kaylor Navas watched as the ball went past him.
Neymar had a decent game overall but did not make as much impact as he would have loved.
The tie soon turned in City’s favor. Seven minutes later, Riyad Mahrez completed the comeback as his free-kick drifted past the wall to beat Navas once again.
To round everything up, adding to PSG’s misery, Idrissa Gueye was deservedly given his marching orders late after a reckless challenge on Ilkay Gundogan.
Manchester City now only need just a draw to qualify for the Champions League finals. Should they manage to do that, it would be the first in the club’s history.
