In the first half, the first goal chance was disrupted by the sun light just after two minutes. Pará placed in a cross for Arthur Gomes who rose to meet the ball with a header, but had to head with his eyes closed and missed his target. In the 13th minute, Peixe created another great chance when Kaio Jorge forced Vanderlei to make a good save.
In the 20th minute, a penalty was awarded to the home side Santos.
Marinho, with a cavadinha, opened the scoring for his team and gave them the much needed lead. After the goal conceded, Grêmio managed to improve and almost got their leveler with Diego Souza’s header in the 31st minute.
In the second half, the game started with much intensity, just three minutes in. Diego Souza got forward and tried his luck kicking the ball from outside the area. The ball deflected off Luan Peres and almost went in tricking goalkeeper João Paulo. Few minutes later, Jean Mota tipped Marinho with a sublime cross, but his effort hit the post.
The pace of the game dropped in the 73rd minute as Tricolor got their equalizer. In a well-constructed play, Pepê assisted David Braz to put his side on level terms with their opponent. However, Santos had a quick response. In the 79th minute, after checking VAR, the referee gave David Braz another penalty which was taken by Marinho the scorer of the first penalty to restore his side’s lead.
Late in the game, David Braz received the matching order for a bad foul after being on yellow previously.
Santos take on Atlético-GO next while Grêmio host Botafogo. Both games are on Wednesday.
