In order for all divisions of Japanese football to have 20 clubs, this year only the last placed team in the J-League will be relegated.

With only two rounds left until the end of the championship, Yokohama FC continues in the fight to avoid relegation and on the 25th, Saturday, it will have the chance to leave last place, just beat Shonan, who is second to last and has two points ahead of the ‘Fulie’.

“I believe it is one of the most important games of my career. We have to be connected from the first to the last minute. We cannot give any gaps. The mentality has to be this until the last game,” said Marcelo Ryan.

Author of four goals and two assists this season, having scored twice in the last five games, the Brazilian striker is one of the main names on the Japanese team.

Despite not finding the net in the last game, in the 3-1 victory against Sagan Tosu, the 21-year-old valued the points gained.

“It was certainly one of the most important triumphs of the championship, which left us more alive in the competition than ever. We will work during this period without games to correct the mistakes and go to the Shonan game with everything ready,” he said.

With just three league games since the start of October and a further two-week gap between the 32nd and 33rd rounds, Marcelo Ryan is not a big fan of long periods without games.

“Breaks the rhythm of the team that has been imposing itself. Spending more than a week without playing I think it takes away the rhythm and intensity that the team has already been building with games from week to week,” he analyzed.

The match between Yokohama FC and Shonan takes place at 2 am (Brasília time) from Friday (24) to Saturday (25),  at Mitsuzawa Stadium. In the last round, the Brazilian’s team will face Kashima Antlers.
