Manchester City lifted the Premier League trophy for the third time after trashing Everton 5-0, at the Etihad on Sunday, in a match Sergio Aguero said his goodbyes in style scoring twice off the bench.
City won the League title for the third time in five years under Pep Guardiola, although it was confirmed after second-placed Manchester United’s 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday, with two games to spare.
Despite not starting the season as much as they would have expected, and picking up 12 points from their first eight games, which was their worst start since 2008-09, the blues turned things around and had a fantastic second half of the campaign.
They took advantage of slumps from both Liverpool and Manchester United slumps, to be crowned champions again.
After losing at Tottenham Hotspur back in November, the Manchester club won 22 of their next 27 matches, including a 15-game winning run and a record-equalling 11 successive away league wins.
The title marked another landmark for Pep Guardiola since his arrival back in 2016. The Spaniard has won three league titles in every division he has managed, triumphing in Spain with Barcelona and Germain with Bayern Munich.
The clubs’ latest addition moves them to seven in total, level with Aston Villa, and just behind city rivals Manchester United (20), Liverpool (19), Arsenal (13), and Everton (9).
Manchester City would also play their first ever Champions League finals on Saturday, 29th May, against Chelsea. The Citizens have already lost to Chelsea twice this season and will be eager to claim the all-important win and much needed Champions League triumph that the club seems to have been searching for over the past few years.
