Chelsea lost yet another game to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. Three first half goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne and a late consolation from Callum Hudson Odoi guided the Manchester side to another victory against the London club.
Manchester city came into the game with six players unavailable due to positive Covid 19 test. The most notable in the City lineup was goalkeeper Zack Steffen who saw his first Premier League minutes for Manchester City.
Zack Steffen struggled in the opening minutes of the game as his back-pass to Rodri saw Chelsea awarded an indirect free-kick early on. Following that incident, it was City who were in the ascendency.
Chelsea then went down in the 18th minute after dominating play in the first 15 minutes of the match. City’s first goal was scored by Gundogan via a brilliant shot from just outside the box. It took just 157 seconds for City to score the second after brilliant passing from City ended with Foden slotting past Edouard Mendy.
City got their third in the 34th minute with De Bruyne on the mark. It started via Raheem Sterling made a macey run through Chelsea’s defence to the goal area. With no support, he saw his shot from the left rebound off the crossbar which allowed De Bruyne to pick up the loose ball and getting the third for his side.
Chelsea eventually got a consolation in extra time after substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi grabbed a goal in extra time.
With the result, Chelsea has now lost four times in their last six games and pressure continues to pile on manager Frank Lampard. On the other hand, Man City move up to fifth place with two games in hand.
