Lyon come off a good run in Europe where they made the semi-final of the Champions League but lost via a 3-0 score line to eventual winners Bayern Munich.
Despite trailing from a goal down to Aurelien Scheildler’s opening goal in 14 minutes, Lyon dominated play just almost immediately afterwards.
Depay equalized from the penalty spot in the 39th and then, after center half Wesley Lautoa scored an own-goal in the 45th, the Netherlands forward latched onto strike partner Karl Toko-Ekambi’s cross moments before the break.
Midway through the second half Depay added his second penalty of the night.
The Dutchman is currently liked with an exit from Lyon but he was sure to play down any of those talks after the game. He has been linked with a move to join former Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.
“I am focused on OL. I can dream of playing for big clubs but I am just trying to do my best here,” Depay, told reporters at the Groupama Stadium following Lyon’s fine start to the new Ligue 1 Uber Eats season.
The 26-year-old also spoke about Lyon not being in the Champions League this season.
“I don’t think that not being in Europe is an advantage because when we play in Europe we make progress. We gained confidence and we progressed in our experience. We want to try to battle PSG. We will try to win something. We have to stay focused on our goals and work. We have a great team.”
Depay missed nearly six months of last season after a serious knee injury and now totals 57 goals in 139 games since joining from Manchester United in January 2017.
