An emotional return

“It’s a whirlwind of emotions, it feels like I can’t even realize. Just thinking back to everything I’ve been through here, realizing how time has passed and I’m back, it’s incredibly moving. I am really fulfilled, it is a special moment in my career, for my family. This is a truly exceptional opportunity for me,” he enthusiastically shared in an interview with the club’s official website.

After spending 11 seasons in Europe, playing for big-name teams such as PSG and Tottenham, Lucas Moura is finally returning to where it all began. His short contract, which ends in December, has opened the door to further speculation about his future. Rumors are already swirling about a possible move to Major League Soccer (MLS), with Los Angeles FC as the destination.

Although the transfer window has already closed, Lucas Moura’s free agent status allows him to be registered by São Paulo FC after the deadline, until August 8, to participate in the Copa do Brasil.

Lucas’ return coincides with the start of training, where he will be joined by other new signings, including James Rodríguez. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad are preparing to face San Lorenzo in the Copa Sudamericana.

Lucas Moura made São Paulo FC history when he made his professional debut in 2010. He has since appeared in 128 games and scored 33 goals before continuing his career in Europe. His return is a tribute to his roots and an opportunity for fans to once again celebrate the talent of this iconic player on the pitch which saw him shine for the first time.
