São Paulo player Lucas Moura has been called up to the Brazilian national team ahead of the double-header in the South American World Cup Qualifiers. Coach Dorival Júnior made the decision to replace Savinho, who was ruled out due to medical issues.
The last time the former Tottenham and PSG player was part of the Seleção was in 2018. A winner of the 2013 Confederations Cup and a silver medalist with the U-23 team at the 2012 London Olympics, the forward has played 35 matches for the national team, scoring four goals.

In August 2023, he returned to São Paulo, the club where he developed, and became a key player. In the past year, the team has won the Copa do Brasil, the Supercopa do Brasil, and is qualified for the quarter-finals of the Libertadores, where they will face Botafogo.
Dorival Júnior knows him well from his time at the Tricolor Paulista, the team he managed before taking over the reins of the five-time champions in January.
Savinho’s injury
Moura will replace Savinho, who missed Manchester City’s victory over West Ham in London during the Premier League. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) reported that the substitution was due to “clinical issues” concerning the winger, without specifying the severity of the injury.
Next Monday, the Brazilian national team will travel to Curitiba to face Ecuador on September 6. Four days later, they will take on Paraguay in Asunción.
