The game ended in a 2-2 score line and Brazilian forward Richarlison was on the wrong side of the headlines with a straight red card.
On the five-year anniversary of Jurgen Klopp’s first game in charge of Liverpool, his men kept the tradition having a strong response after a setback.
In the first half, three minutes into the game, Andy Robertson got past Seamus Coleman and cut back teasing pass to Sadio Mane who slotted in the opener and put Liverpool in the lead early on.
Later into the game, Virgil van Dijk tried to reach a cross following a free kick, but had a huge collision with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford
who appeared to catch the Dutchman’s knee in an awkward position. Van Dijk was later replaced by Joe Gomez in the 11th minute.
The home side got their equalizer in the 19th minute following a corner kick played by James Rodriguez and met by Michael Keane’s header.
In the second half, the game was more balanced. Mohammed Salah lashed in a loose ball from Yerry Mina’s defensive mistake in the 72nd minutes but the lead didn’t last long. In the 81st minute, Everton got their equalizer scored via a header by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Late in the final period of the game, Everton forward Richarlison received his matching orders for a bad foul on Thiago Alcantara. He was late and he showed his studs.
Liverpool had the chance to win the game from with a goal scored by Jordan Henderson, but it was ruled out for offside by VAR. Mane was deemed to be in an offside position before making the pass. The game ended with two goals apiece.
