Liverpool might have ran out 2-0 winners against Midtjylland in the Champions League but it wasn’t all smiles. The win sees the Reds with a 100% record in the Champions League so far.
However, they suffered some loss on the injury front. ‘Make-shift’ centre-back Fabinho suffered an injury in the process and it could put the Reds in a tricky situation.
Given the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip already, another injury to a member of their backline was the last thing Liverpool needed.
Sadly, Fabinho had to be substituted having pulled up while running.
After the game, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that he is unsure on the extent of the player’s injury.
Klopp said as quoted by the club’s official website:
“Fab, I don’t know. Muscle injuries are like this, you get the result tomorrow morning probably, we have to wait for that.”
If Fabinho has suffered a long-term injury, Liverpool could be in some serious trouble from a defensive point of view.
As things stand, Joe Gomez is Liverpool’s only fit senior centre-back option. Youngster Rhys Williams had to come on and replace Fabinho in the Champions League clash last night.
Matip is close to returning to action but once again Klopp remains unsure about his situation as well.
Asked if Matip could be available for Saturday’s home clash with West Ham, Klopp said: “I don’t know, we have to see”.
Liverpool might now have to make do with their youngsters or a make-shift backline as the case may be. Injuries have not been favorable to the Reds at all so far this term.
