From a penalty spot, the midfielder put his side in the lead after being reviewed by the VAR in the second half. The 39 year old midfielder scored his sixth goal of the season in the Brasileirão, 19 in all competitions and took his team to 5th place on the table.
Mano Menezes was another talking point at Maracanã. The coach did not stay quiet throughout the 90 minutes.
After the penalty was scored and the video check, Mano went nuts with the referee José Mendonça da Silva Junior: "enjoy the game, you won’t beep any more", "leave this bum there, and don’t talk to bum". He later ended up with a yellow card for invading the pitch to complain and did not greet Odair Hellamnn on the field.
In the first half, there were limited spaces to created chances at Maracanã. Nenê with his man of the match performance was the only player to try something different on the pitch. He made Douglas work but had no support. Bahia, with a laid back strategy tried to play through a counter attack especially with Rossi but it wasn’t effective.
In the final stage, the game outlook was not changed. But the game gained some substance. The VAR in the 22nd minute, Nenê was tackled to the ground in the penalty area by Gregore. The game restored at first, but after the review by the Video Assistant Referee, the referee awarded a penalty.
Nenê stood up to take the penalty and scored. It was his 19th goal of the season six of which comes from the Brasileirão.
Fluminense’s next game will be against Atlético-MG on Wednesday in Mineirão while Bahia will take on Goiás at Serrinha.
