Santos beat Botafogo 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to record their second successive league win.
Soteldo scored very early in the first half before setting up Bruno Marques late in the second half. Botafogo got one over Peixe through a penalty spot kick late in the first half and Pedro Raul was the goal scorer.
Santos started the game with lots of drive and got the opening goal just four minutes into the match. Soteldo scored through an overhead kick after receiving an audacious pass from Pituca.
Peixe had several other opportunities to add to their goal tally later on in the first 45 minutes but wasteful finishing was their undoing. Just on the stroke of half time, Santos conceded a penalty.
Laercio Solda fouled Babi Matheus in the goal area and gifted the visitors a penalty. Pedro Raul made no mistake to draw his side level going into the break.
Santos resumed the second half as the first. They got even more chances to get back in the lead but failed to hit the target once again.
Pexie hit the cross bar in the 75th minute before finally getting their winning goal in the 82nd minute after Bruno Marques met Soteldo’s cross with a header.
Botafogo thought they had equalized minutes later but the goal was ruled out for offside and cancelled as Nascimento De Paula was deemed to be inches wide.
The win makes it Santos second consecutive win, leaving them in 8th place and three points behind Palmeiras in sixth.
On the other hand, Botafogo sits at the bottom on the table after losing four consecutive games. They would need a miracle and a good run of form to be out of the relegation zone.
Both sides will return to action in midweek as Botafogo hosts Atlético-GO on Wednesday and Santos visit Fortaleza the next day.
