Marinho opened up the scoring in the first half of the game, Rojas leveled the score line in the second half before Jean Mota rounded it off to give his side the victory in the final minutes of the game with his first touch of the ball.
The victory was needed for Cuca’s team, who came from the heart of two goalless draws between the Brasileirão and Libertadores.
Santos started as the better side and their early pressure paid off.
In the 17th minute, Marinho opened the scoring with a headed goal after a good pass from Soltedo.
It was his first goal in the Libertadores.
Delfín began to play with more aggression after conceding, and had Carlos Rodríguez sent off after two hard fouls on Kaio Jorge late in the first half.
In the second half, Santos had full control of the game with one player advantage on the field, yet at the same time allowed inconsistent attacks from Delfín.
After losing a couple of chances, Peixe gave space on the right end of its defense and ended up giving an equalising goal in the 74th minute. Cuca had already made an offensive substitution with Raniel’s entry in Arthur Gomes’ place, and made another change take effect when he replaced Kaio Jorge with Jean Mota.
On his first touch of the ball, Jean got an excellent through ball from Raniel and scored the winning goal nine minutes from time, securing a victory for Santos.
Santos returns to the field next Sunday to face Fortaleza in Vila Belmiro. For the Libertadores, their next outing is on Thursday against Olimpia in Paraguay.
