The game between Vasco and Fluminense ended in a 1-1 draw on Sunday in São Januário.
Flu wasted no time in setting the pace of the game as they opened the scoring after just nine minutes of action but were eventually undone by a late goal in stoppage time in the second half.
Both sides proved to be equally matched in the first half and showed good attacking intent at both ends.
Despite Vasco boasting two goal-scoring attempts early on, Flu was more threatened in front of goal and grabbed the opener through Wellington Silva in the ninth minute.
Cano also came close to levelling matters not long after but blew a chance for the equalizer. One of the best chances Vasco had in the first half came via an effort from Neto, but once again he failed to hit the target.
The second half started similarly to the first. Fluminense maintained possession of the ball but sat back a bit. That allowed Vasco to press more and apply more pressure in the hopes of getting an equalizer.
The game looked to be headed for a Fluminense victory but there was to be drama late on.
Vasco finally got their breakthrough in the second minute of the extra time when Léo Gil tried a shot from outside the area that fell into the path of Cano who made no mistake to fire home and earn his side a point. It was a fair result in general.
With that result, Fluminense moves out of the top six and sit one point behind Gremio despite playing one more game.
For their next outing, Atlético-GO will host Fluminense on Thursday while Vasco welcomes Santos on home turf three days later on Sunday.
