Athletico-PR could breathe themselves a huge sigh of relief after they tasted victory once again in the Brasilerao.
A goal from Kayzer was the difference as Athletico-PR claimed a 1-0 victory over Red Bull Bragantino on Sunday afternoon at the Nabi Abi Chedid stadium.
Bragantino dominated all the chances and possession of the ball but it was a game where effectiveness in front of goal defined the outcome of the game. Athletico-PR had only four chances on goal throughout the 90 minutes and their only shot on goal proved to be the difference as it led to a goal scored by Reynato Kayzer in the 26th minute.
It was a game where Athletico had to dig deep with resolute defending and Paulo Autuori was seen baring orders at his players on numerous occasions from the sidelines.
Elsewhere, a talking point in the game came in the first half when Bragantino players paid tribute to the legendary Marcelo Veiga with his name on a special jersey worn by all the players. The manager took charge of Bragantino for 516 games and passed away last Monday due to covid-19.
With the result, both teams are level on 31 points. However, Atletico-PR are in 12th place just one spot ahead of Bragantino due to their superior number of wins so far. The distance from the relegation zone is not far either with 17th place Vasco only just three points behind with 28 points.
For their next outings, both sides will play their next games in the Brazilian Championship next Sunday. Bragantino travel to Allianz Parque to take on Palmeiras while Athletico-PR welcomes Vasco to the Arena da Baixada.
