Corinthians started the game with urgency and pushed hard in the Botafogo half looking to score early. Their early push for a goal paid off soon enough after they were awarded a penalty just after 10 minutes. Fagner took the spot kick and sent it calmly past goalkeeper Fernandez to give Timão the lead.
Gradually, Botafogo started to grow into the game and also saw more of the ball as they pushed for an equalizer.
It also paid off for Fogão when Nazario grabbed the equalizer in the 22nd minute.
Second half saw both sides chase for a winner even though Corinthians had more of the ball. Against the run of play, Botafogo would go on to get the next goal. Kalou connected with Rhuan brilliantly to score his first goal for the club in the 75th minute. VAR came into play again when a goal from Otero was ruled out four minutes later.
Corinthians continued to push for a goal and dominated possession towards the end with no avail. Just when it seemed like Botafogo would win the game, Jô popped up with a 93rd minute goal to level the game just at the very end.
The result sees Corinthians with nine points and also in ninth position in the Brasileirão. Botafogo moved up to 13th position after they went up to eight points. However, their position could change after other games in the round are completed.
For their next outing, Corinthians welcome Palmeiras at Neo Química Arena on Thursday. Botafogo travel to face Athletico-PR at the Arena da Baixada a day earlier.
