Midfielder Jorginho, voted UEFA’s best player in the 2020/21 season, achieved another important feat in European football. Last Saturday (30), when he took to the field for Arsenal in their 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, the player reached the mark of 162 games played in the Premier League and, thus, isolated himself as the fifth Italian player with the most matches played in the history of the championship. Until then, the Italian-Brazilian shared this position with former goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.
Of these 162 games, 19 were played by Arsenal, five in the current season, and 143 by Chelsea, in addition to 21 goals scored. The 31-year-old arrived in the United Kingdom in 2018/19 after five and a half years standing out for Italy’s Napoli. Afterwards, he spent five and a half seasons defending the Blues and, since January of this year, the Italian national team athlete has played for Arsenal.

Italian Gianfranco Zola leads this ranking, with 229 matches. Angelo Ogbonna (192), Paolo Di Canio (190) and Benito Carbone (177) follow. If he represented the Brazilian team, Jorginho would currently be in 13th position among Brazilians and ahead of names like Ramires (159), Lucas Moura (152) and Fabinho (151).
“Happy to be part of the top-5 of Italian players with the most games in the Premier League. Come on, Gunners!,” shared Jorginho on his official profile.
