João Pedro is stepping in for an injured Pedro in Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. A tough break for Pedro, who tore his cruciate ligament in Wednesday’s training, has sidelined him for the rest of the season.

This injury has opened the door for João Pedro, a 22-year-old standout from Brighton, to make his mark on the international stage.

In just three games this Premier League season, he’s already netted two goals. Last season, he impressed with 20 goals and three assists over 40 games. His performance at Brighton has not gone unnoticed, earning him a spot previously on the roster for matches against Colombia and Argentina, though he didn’t play.

Brazil, currently sixth in the qualifiers, really needs to shake things up. They face Ecuador this Friday at Couto Pereira and then head to Paraguay next Tuesday. It’s a big chance for João Pedro to show he can handle the pressure and perform for the national team just like he does in the Premier League.
