São Paulo shook up the transfer market with the signing of James Rodríguez. The Colombian, who was free after rescinding with Olympiakos, signed a two-year contract with Tricolor, until June 2025. This is his return to South American football after more than a decade abroad.
“When they said that the club wanted to sign me, I thought about it for two or three days, but it was quick. The club was making a great effort, me too,” said the 32-year-old midfielder in his presentation. Aware that the fans are eager to see him on the field, James clarified that his physical condition is good, although he is not yet encouraged to predict when he could debut.

James Rodríguez prefers to wait
“I am physically fine, very good. But I need to train at the pace… Playing, that takes a few days. Do the tasks, everything to be able to arrive. There is still a long way to go, but I am in good physical shape”, explained the player regarding his physical form and the expected debut.
Although he does not have any injury or discomfort that could delay his first appearance, the 2014 World Cup goalscorer hinted that he must first follow an adaptation process: “I believe that the plan for all this is the club’s. I don’t know how we’re going to do it, I’m ready, I was training. But I need training pace. I go every day, there is still a little more to go”.
In addition, he recalled that he comes from having continuity in his last club. “In the last year in Greece I played a lot more games,” added James, who had missed minutes in his last few years in Europe before joining Qatari side Al-Rayyan. Perhaps we will have to wait a bit, but São Paulo already knows that it has a renowned figure for the remainder of the season.
