Expected to succeed Fernando Diniz at the head of the Brazilian selection, after a period as interim coach which lasted 6 months, Dorival Júnior was appointed coach of the Seleção, landing this position dreamed of by every Brazilian coach.

Indeed, the now former coach of São Paulo was dismissed from his functions by the management of the club, as it was informed in a press release, therefore succeeding Fernando Diniz who will now focus solely on his responsibilities with Fluminense, a club that he had not left when taking the reins of the Seleção.

New era for the Seleção

“The São Paulo Futebol Clube announces the departure of coach Dorival Júnior, who requested his resignation to take charge of the Brazilian team,” says the press release published by the club on its networks.

“It is the realization of a personal dream, made possible only thanks to the recognition of the work accomplished within São Paulo. This is why I would like to thank for having been part of this important period of reconstruction, competently led by the presidency and management,” commented Dorival Júnior.

As a reminder, since he began his coaching career in 2002, Dorival Júnior has coached more than twenty clubs, but only in Brazil,  in Série A or Série B. Among the major titles that he was able to win a Brazilian Cup in 2010 with Santos and a Recopa Sudamericana with Internacional in 2012, as well as the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Cup with Flamengo in 2022. He more recently offered São Paulo the first title in the Brazilian Cup.

All that is missing is formalization from the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF).
