Two late goals from Hernandez and Edenilson from the spot gifted Internacional a comeback 2-1 win over Grêmio. Tricolor had gone up one goal ahead in the 76th minute through Jean but they couldn’t hold on to their lead.

Inter have now gone eight consecutive games without tasting defeat, winning all eight of them. That brilliant run has now taken them four points clear at the top in the race for the Brasileirão title.

The classic match between Internacional and Grêmio started out slowly, with the home side causing all the problems and threatening to score in the opening minutes of the game. Colorado seemed to have the game under control, although Grêmio had more possession of the ball. However, Inter created better goal scoring opportunities and had more shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes than Inter.

Coming back from the break, Grêmio increased their tempo as they started to dominate and cause more trouble for Inter in defence.

However, with all the chances they were getting, they weren’t clinical enough. Grêmio looked like they had gotten the win when Jean Pyerre broke the deadlock.

In the 76th minute, Diogo Barbosa found space in the midfield and sprinted forward, finding Diego Souza in the box who released for Jean Pyerre to draw first blood.

The game already looked won by the visitors but Inter never gave up. They got their equalizer in the 90th minute when Abel Hernández headed in Cuesta’s cross following a free kick.

There was further drama still to come. Inter got a late winner in the 8th minute of extra time from a penalty kick. Edenilson made no mistake from the spot to score and seal a 2-1 win for Internacional.

After going four points clear at the summit, Internacional will be looking to maintain their momentum when they play against Bragantino on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Grêmio will be looking to bounce back in their outstanding fixture against Flamengo on Thursday.
