Internacional got pass Fortaleza with ease as they beat the visitors 4-2 on Sunday to move within one point off first place in the Brasilerao. It was a goal fest as an own goal from Carlinhos plus a penalty goal from Wellington Paulista were the highlights of the match.
The game started out in favour of the hosts as Yuri Alberto opened the scoring just after four minutes of the game. Six minutes later, Rodrigo Dourado doubled his side advantage after heading in Moises’ cross following a free kick.
Vidal Rocha then conceded a penalty in the 14th minute which was converted by Wellington Paulista to put the visitors back in the mix. The host had less of the ball, but had more of chances created upfront. Yuri Alberto, Víctor Cuesta and Praxedes all had chances to extend Inter’s advantage before the break but they all failed to hit the target.
After the break, Fortaleza upped their game and got their equalizer through Romarinho in the 56th minute. David had an opportunity to turn the game around in the away side’s favour minutes late but was only able to hit the side netting.
However, in the 71st minute, Peglow put Inter back in the lead after Patrick made a beautiful run down the left. He got past two of his markers to assist the substitute, who made no mistake and fired home. Carlinhos then made a terrible mistake at the back, and scored an own goal. In an unlucky turn of events, he redirected Felipe Alves’ already saved effort back into the net.
For the next outings, we have a big game on the cards! Internacional will travel to face São Paulo in a big match up for top spot on Wednesday. Whoever wins that game goes top of the Brazilian Serie A.
Elsewhere, Fortaleza who hasn’t won in eight games will be looking for their first win when they host Santos on Thursday.
