It was more or less a game between the top two teams contending to be top of the Brasileirão table. Playing at home, Eduardo Coudet’s Colorado opened the scoring on Jorge Sampaoli’s Cock in the seven minutes of the first half through Thiago Galhardo.
After going a goal down, Atlético-MG started to attack and spent all the time from them looking for an all-important equalizer but was unable to topple Inter and barely threatened them in front of goal. The 1-0 victory at the end of the day gave Inter all three points and also saw them secure top spot of the Brasileirão.
Inter started the game better, setting the pace and dominating the actions.
With three defenders, Atlético defended themselves and tried to close the spaces of the opposition attack. The attempt soon paid off in a short while. In the 7th minute, Patrick found a beautiful pass to Thiago Galhardo, who found space off the Atletico defenders and fired home with no mistake. Atletico dominated possession afterwards but failed to create any clear-cut chances from them.
Jorge Sampaoli made changes at the break to improve Atlético-MG. Marquinhos and debutant Eduardo Sasha went well but once again all off the possession did not paid off. They tried and tried but to no avail Inter saw out the game.
With the victory at home, Inter currently lie on 12 points and are the current leaders of the Brasileirão. This Sunday, the only team that can overtake Inter is Vasco who take on Grêmio in São Januário. Inter will take on Botafogo next Saturday while Jorge Sampaoli’s men will face Athletico-PR.
