Palmeiras lost 2-0 away from home against Internacional on Saturday. Verdão dominated possession but couldn’t find the target to back their performance on the pitch.
Internacional scored early in the first half in the 11th minute through Edenilson and rounded things off with seven minutes to spare late in the second half through Yuri Alberto to move back to fourth place of the Brazilian Championship ahead of Gremio.
After struggling for wins of late, the result now sees Inter record their second successive victory and against a rival as well.
Palmeiras had several attempts but were not precise enough to find a goal on target. Breno was brought in place for Veiga immediately after the break but his presence didn’t change much on the pitch.
After several changes made by Ferreira Abel in the second period, his side couldn’t make a decent shot on target. The fact that Palmeiras took 13 shots with none on target all game summed up their day.
Inter game plan worked perfectly well after Yuri Alberto doubled their advantage following a counter attacking situation. After a fast break, Edenílson opened Palmeiras’ defence after placing a cross through for Yuri Alberto who found space for a slick chip Weverton to make it 2-0.
D’Alessandro was brought on with three minutes to spare for his farewell ceremony. He was received as the legend he is with much applauds and he was handed the captain’s hand band for the remainder of the match. He ended his last game with a much-deserved victory and was celebrated by his teammates in jubilant fashion afterwards.
Palmeiras have now dropped out of the top four and are in sixth place with 41 points.
