Speculation has been rife since last summer, linking former FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez with a move to Inter Miami. However, he preferred to remain loyal to Gremio, in Brazil, with whom he had signed a two-year contract in December 2022.

But last summer, Suarez announced he would end his Brazilian adventure prematurely, leaving Gremio at the end of the season in December. At that point, the renowned striker will become a free agent, free to sign with any club of his choosing.

Martino’s plan

Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino, formerly in charge of FC Barcelona during the 2013-2014 season, has publicly confirmed his intentions to recruit Luis Suarez. Martino clarified during a press conference that Suarez is part of his plans for the 2024 MLS season.

“ As part of our analysis of the upcoming season, and the needs we might have, we considered scenarios with Luis and without Luis ,” Martino said. “ So when the time comes to make Suarez’s situation official in relation to Inter Miami, we will be ready to move in the corresponding direction.

Dream Team in the United States

If the transfer goes through, it will be an exceptional reunion between Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, two former teammates of FC Barcelona.

Both players made history during their time at Camp Nou, forming the fearsome MSN alongside Neymar. Together they have won an impressive total of 13 major titles, including one Champions League and four La Liga titles.

The signing of Messi by Inter Miami in the summer marked the start of this planned reunion. The arrival of Martino as coach, followed by his former Barça teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, strengthened the team.

The MLS transfer window is expected to open either in late January or early February next year, providing an opportunity for Suarez to join Inter Miami as a free agent.

The 36-year-old Uruguayan, who has scored 18 goals in 42 appearances since joining Gremio last year, could soon take to the pitch alongside his long-time friend Lionel Messi to the delight of fans of football.
