Two second half goals scored by Caio Vidal and Yuri Alberto handed Internacional a 2-0 away victory against Ceará.
The win sees Inter with four successive wins on the spin and moves Abel Braga’s side to second place momentarily.
Ceará were all over their opponents in the first half, but couldn’t find the mark to add to their dominance, missing series of chances in the process.
The game was dull with lots of missed chances and errors. However, in the 53rd minute the visitors struck first. Edenilson got the ball from Rodrigo Dourado in the midfield, advanced forward and saw Caio Vidal’s run. The striker made no mistake in front of goal as his deflected shot found the back of the net.
Ceará who had series of chances in the opening 45 minutes of the game, found it difficult to create a chance in the second period after they conceded. They continued to hold onto the ball but failed to capitalize on their advantages having little going forward.
In the 78th minute, the home side’s defence turned off, allowing Yuri Alberto to double his sides’s advantage. Abel Hernández sighted Alberto’s run and lobbed a cross with a header towards the striker, who placed the ball over the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
With the defeat, Ceará sits in 11th position, and will be looking to bounce back when they face Flamengo in their next fixture on Sunday in Maracanã.
On the other hand, Inter will be hoping to continue their impressive run of form as they go against Goiás later that evening on Sunday, in Beira-Rio. They sit in second place and one point ahead of Atletico-MG and Flamengo who are level on points in 3rd and 4th respectively.
