The Olympic gold medal match of the women’s football tournament at the Paris 2024 Games features the two biggest finalists in history: Brazil and the United States. In their third final, the Brazilian National Team is uniquely seeking the highest spot on the podium, which has been occupied by the Americans four times in five encounters. This will be the sixth final for the Americans.

Long-time rivals, the Brazilian National Team and the United States will face off next Saturday (10th) at 12 PM (Brasília time) at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

The green and yellow team narrowly missed out on gold at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Games. In both matches, they were defeated by the United States, losing 2-1 and 1-0, respectively, both in extra time. Marta is the only remaining player from those campaigns.

The Brazilians competed for bronze in Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Rio 2016. In the United States, Norway was the downfall of the Brazilian National Team, in Australia, it was Germany, and in Brazil, Canada.

On the other hand, the United States is the most successful team in Olympic women’s football. A four-time champion, the Americans won gold in Atlanta 1996 and London 2012, as well as Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and took home the silver medal in Sydney 2000, losing the final to Norway 3-2.

The Americans won the bronze medal at the last Olympics, in Tokyo 2020.
