Goiás produced one of the shock results of the Brasileirão this weekend as they claimed an unexpected 1-0 win over Palmeiras at home.
Palmeiras went into the game with 21 absentees and it got worse for them as they lost their scorer Luiz Adriano through injury in the first half.
Elsewhere, they saw Mayke get sent off before the break in the 39th minute.
It hurt all the more for Verdão that they conceded the goal in the 93rd minute. For Goiás, it was their first victory in 11 matches and the first after the resignation of coach Enderson Moreira.
Few minutes into the game, Palmeiras almost drew first blood with shots from Luiz Adriano but his efforts were saved by Tadeu twice. The striker then left the field injured.
In the 39th minute, Mayke was sent off with the decision by the VAR for a bad tackle on Taylon’s ankle.
In the second half, Palmeiras managed to make some reinforcements in defence and prevented the home side to have space to score. Even with the entry of Rafael Moura, and playing with two center forwards, Goiás were still unable to create and pressurize the visiting team with ten men.
In the dying minutes of the second half, in the 93rd minutes, Miguel Figueira struck from outside the goal area, with a surprise effort putting his side in the lead and giving the team their first victory in 11 games. The game left Palmeiras stunned and saw their four-game winning streak come to an end in painful fashion.
Palmeiras will play at home to Athletico on Saturday. Goiás visit Fortaleza on Thursday.
