How many World Cups have Brazil won?

Brazil remains the country with the most World Cup titles, despite disappointing performances in the last editions of the tournament. It is still common to hear that old saying: “Everyone tries, but only Brazil is Penta,” isn’t it? That’s why Sambafoot decided to remember when the last titles were won by the Yellow Jersey.

It’s worth noting that Brazil’s first two titles were won consecutively in 1958 and 1962. In the recent editions of the World Cup, the Brazilian National Team fell short. In both 2018 and 2022, the team, led by Tite in both editions, did not advance beyond the quarter-finals.

Recent Champions

From the 2010 edition until 2022, European football has dominated the World Cup, with Spain, Germany, France, and most recently Argentina, representing South America, being champions in their respective years. The last final, for example, was historic: 3-3 in regular time between Argentina and France, with the title decided in a penalty shootout.

Brazil’s World Cup Titles

1958

In this year, when Brazil won its first World Cup title, the Brazilian team had a very young Pelé as one of the great highlights of that historic victory.

1962

In that year, the Brazilian National Team faced Czechoslovakia again in the World Cup final. Pelé got injured in the first round of the competition and was very well replaced by Amarildo, who scored one of the goals in the final.

1970

Eight years later, Brazil would win the third World Cup title in Mexico. In 1970, Brazil became the first team to win three times, surpassing Italy and Uruguay.

1994

The title drought, which lasted 24 years, ended at the World Cup held in the United States. An unforgettable final, with the famous narration by Galvão Bueno of TV Globo: “It’s your turn, Taffarel.” In the final, Brazil faced Italy and won the fourth title on penalties after Baggio missed his shot.

2002

In the World Cup held in two Asian countries, Japan and South Korea, Brazil had Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Rivaldo, and Ronaldo Phenomenon as symbols of the Penta victory, along with players like Denilson, Kaká, Marcos, among others. In the grand final, a show by the number nine, who scored both goals in the title match against Germany.
