Gremio suffer Libertadores defeat after poor performance against Universidad Católica

After the Tricolor was so into the game for the whole 90 minutes, they still lost out 2-0 to Universidad Católica in the third round. 

In the first half, Universidad Católica was in control of the field of play advancing aggressively and applying pressure to the Grêmio area. Tricolor was more defensive and looked to play on the counter. 

At 44, Zampedri scored after getting the time and space to rome freely in the area taking his side 1-0 up. Just a minute later, Pinares added the second and gave Católica a 2-0 lead going into the first half. 

In the second half, The Catholic kept on overwhelming the game and could have just extended in the opening minutes. 

Grêmio kept on fizzling in their half and created little moving forward 

After Guilherme AzevedoRildo and Ferreira were substituted on. The team challenged more, notwithstanding, with little effectiveness. The home team eased back down and relaxed on the pitch. 

It got worse for Gremio when David Braz was shown his second yellow and was off the pitch with little time to play towards the end. 

Grêmio stays in second place in Group E, three points behind leaders InterUniversidad Católica with three points same with America de Cali, third spot, and not far away from the Tricolor. 

Grêmio will have the Gre-Nal do Beira-Rio next WednesdayOn the same day and time, Católica faces América de Cali in Colombia. For the Brasileirão, the team from Rio Grande do Sul receives Palmeiras on Sunday at the Arena.
