The Tricolor scored two goals in the space of four minutes, with the goals coming from David Braz and Orejuela in the 68th and 72nd minute respectively. The away side’s only goal came in five minutes after going down two nil scored by Hurtado in the 77th minute. The defeat pushes Bragantino to the relegation zone.
The first 45 minutes of the game was uneventful. Grêmio and Bragantino did little to get on the score-sheet. Both teams failed to create chances or drive the ball forward enough to open up space for them to score. 10 minutes into the game, Claudinho placed a hard shot at Vanderlei which the goalkeeper saved easily.
In the second half, Grêmio made an early change replacing Isaque for Robinho.
The change made no immediate effect in how the team played and instead Bragantino were the team pushing the hardest to draw first blood.
In the 61st minute, Maicon showed irritation and was asked to leave the pitch. Then, in the 68th minute David Braz opened up the scoring for the home side, following a corner kick situation. Four minutes later, Orejuela extended Grêmio’s lead after a fast break.
Hurtado also got his name on the score–sheet to put his team in the game to the very end, when he deflected Raul’s cross in the 77th minutes.
Both teams created even more chances toward the end of the game, but the game ended up at 2-1, with the home team going away with the three points.
Both teams start the second round of the Brasileirão next Sunday. Bragantino hosts Santos at Nabi Abi Chedid while Grêmio goes to Rio de Janeiro to face Fluminense.
