In a game of few chances and little creativity, São José and Grêmio played out to a 1-1 draw on Monday night in the third round of the Gaucho Championship.
It was a rather dull first half and the game came to life in the second period.
Luiz Eduardo broke the deadlock for the hosts after some good work in the 53rd minute. Youngster Pedro Lucas proved his worth once again and secured a crucial point for Tricolor. In the latter stages of the game, Tricolor were also reduced to ten men after Alves Franco received his marching orders after a second yellow card offence.
The result sees Grêmio lose their 100% win record in the competition but is still enough to see them move to the top of the standings.
Pedro Lucas, 18, was reward with his second opportunity as a Grêmio starter and proved that he could indeed be one to fully break into the first team in no time. In addition to sharp movement and slick passing in the game, he connected brilliantly with Ferreira’s low cross with a well-weighted touch that helped Grêmio take home a point.
Speaking after the game, the youngster said: “I always dreamed of being a professional at Grêmio. I appreciate the support of everyone and also the group. I think the game got a little complicated because of the field. But let’s get ready for the game against Juventude”
Grêmio now have the same 10 points as Internacional, Caxias and São Luiz, but move to the top based on a superior goal difference. However, they still have a game in hand compared to the other teams.
Both teams will return for their next games on Thursday. São José travel to Erechim to take on Ypiranga while Grêmio will face Juventude in a later clash.
