With a goal from Pepê, the game concluded with the away side leaving as winners. Gremio leaves Porto Alegre celebrating their third consecutive victory in the competition and they will be looking to build on that.
The game on Sunday night was summed up to the effectiveness of Grêmio
going forward against the low productivity of Flu who did not come into the game with their last performance.
In the first half, close to the hour mark, Pepê opened up the scoring and made the team from Rio to come out in attack for the goals, making room for more counter attacks. It was there Renato Gaúcho took advantage.
In the second half, the away side made changes that increased the teams’ offensive play. With Ferreira, one of the players that caused more problems and put Fluminense players to work, almost getting a goal of his own, but Muriel saved the cariocas. Gremio have now shown resilience of late and also the fact that they can grind out wins even from the most average of performances.
In the next round of the Brazilian Championship, Grêmio will host Ceará on Saturday in Porto Alegre. Fluminense visits Palmeiras on the same day. The game will be in São Paulo.
With the result, Grêmio are up to 30 points and sits in eighth place of the Brazilian Championship. As they have a game less, they can still overtake Fluminense who remain with 32 in fifth place.
