In the sixth classic of 2020, Grêmio and Inter left all the action and talking points for the second half. There were expulsions, penalties, VAR and goals as well. One for each side, in the 1-1 draw in the rain.
Tricolor came out ahead, with Pepê"s great goal, but Colorado drew with Thiago Galhardo from a penalty.
Equal on the scoreboard, equal to expulsions. Musto and Bruno Cortez received red cards.
The first half was more or less uneventful but the second half is where things heated up.
Grêmio opened the scoring with Pepê in the 53rd minute with a great goal from a little dig in Marcelo Lomba"s exit after a beautiful collective play. The colorados complained of a foul on Thiago Galhardo at the start of the move. Tricolor remained superior and seemed to have the victory underway, especially after the expulsion of Musto, for aggression in Diego Souza.
It just seemed. In the 73rd minute, Bruno Cortez touched the ball inside the area with his arm. Raphael Claus consulted the VAR and scored the penalty, converted by Thiago Galhardo. Grêmio tried a reaction, but it was erased by…. Cortez. The full-back was sent off nine minutes from time. And Gre-Nal ended in a draw.
With the tie, Grêmio reaches 14 points and occupies 14th place in the table of the Brasileirão, but may even end the round in the Z-4. Inter are runners-up to Atletico Mineiro with 22 points.
Grêmio will return to the field next Wednesday when they receive Coritiba at the Arena. Inter have one more day of rest and will face Bragantino at Nabi Abi Chedid on Thursday at 9pm. Both matches are valid for the 14th round of the Brasileirão.
