Gregore was one of the Brazilians who played next to Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Even though he had an important role in Gerardo Martino’s plans (he was captain in every preseason game the Argentine didn’t start), the midfielder was sold to Botafogo to let the franchise be roster compliant.

“It was an experience I never thought would happen. What I learned is the competitiveness these great players have. Lionel Messi is someone who has already conquered everything in his career and still competes, wanting more. That’s what I took for myself,” Gregore said.

A new challenge in Gregore’s return to Brazil
Gregore had spent two and a half seasons in South Florida when Messi landed in North American soil to revolutionize MLS. Before that, the Brazilian had made an impression at Bahia. Now, he faces an interesting challenge in Rio de Janeiro.
“I arrived here and there are already good leaders in the group, and that is built day by day. If you are a captain in another team, when you arrive, you also need to earn the trust of the people, of the players. I come to add, work, help my teammates. And yes, with my energy to face my challenges with seriousness and work, to help the club in its objectives,” said the footballer for whom Botafogo paid 2.5 million euros in this transfer window.
“When it comes to Botafogo’s interest, from the people working here, every player has the goal of working with serious people and in a serious project. I had friends here, I called them and they told me to come. I didn’t even have doubts. It was a good deal for everyone and the desire of my heart is that we can be very happy here,” Gregore added.
