The Brazilian National Team began its quest for the Olympic medal with a victory on Thursday (25) in Bordeaux. The 1-0 win over Nigeria placed Brazil in a tie for the top spot in Group C with Spain. Olympic debutants Gabi Nunes and Lorena commented on the victory and their comebacks from injuries.
“I’m a miracle. Those who know my story understand how much I wanted to be here and live this moment. My family knows, my friends know,” said Gabi Nunes, who has faced a series of injuries but is now 100% ready to represent the national team.

The match in Bordeaux also marked the 27-year-old striker’s Olympic debut.
“This group is so wonderful; we’ve been training hard for all these days. We have a lot to improve on, and it’s the first game, so there’s that anxiety, but I’m very happy to have helped the team,” added the Levante striker from Spain.
Goalkeeper Lorena didn’t hide her happiness after the national team’s Olympic debut. She missed the last World Cup after suffering a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of her left knee months before the tournament began.
“Unfortunately, I ended up missing a major competition in 2023, and I’m very happy to be back, very happy to be able to help the team,” commented Lorena.
“Nigeria was a very tough opponent, and we deserved the victory. We played well and achieved what we wanted. There were some substitutions, and those who came on showed that the group is united,” said Lorena.
Finally, both players looked ahead to the match against Japan, which is crucial in the quest for first place in Group C. The match will take place on Sunday (28) at 12 PM (Brasilia time).
“The next game is going to be very difficult. Now we’ll recover and rest to perform excellently in the next match,” said the striker.
“Brazil is very prepared; Arthur is doing an excellent job here with the national team. The time we spent at Granja Comary in Rio de Janeiro was very good, and the group is strong as you could see today. We will fight to secure first place in the group,” concluded the goalkeeper.
