Top scorer and key contributor in Fluminense’s first-ever Libertadores triumph in 2023, Germán Cano is looking for more this year. With his goal in the victory against Colo-Colo on the group stage second round, the Argentine forward reached 17 goals in the competition and surpassed other legends.
At 36 years old, Cano overtook iconic players such as Pelé, Zico, and Jardel, who scored 16 times in the continental tournament. However, the Tricolor idol is still far from Alberto Spencer, the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 54 goals (48 for Peñarol and six for Barcelona SC).

Cano ties Paolo Guerrero
Additionally, Cano matched Paolo Guerrero as the foreigner with the most goals for a Brazilian club in Libertadores history. While the Argentine scored all of them for the Rio de Janeiro giants, the Peruvian scored a total of 17 goals for three different clubs.

Guerrero and Cano are followed by Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who has scored 12 goals in the competition so far.
