Germán Cano has proved once again that his star is shining. During Fluminense’s draw with Internacional on Wednesday (27), the Argentine striker scored twice to help his team not fall into advantage on the Copa Libertadores semifinals.

With these two goals, he is now the leader of the world once again, with 35 balls in the nets during this year. Cano faces great competition from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who is just behind with 33. The Norwegian did not play against Newcastle in the middle of the week and saw the Citizens be eliminated of the Carabao Cup from the bench.

Another great season for Cano

This is Germán Cano’s second year at Fluminense, but he already left his mark. In 2022, he scored 44 goals for the club, which is the highest number of any player during this century. With 35 this season, he has surpassed Fred’s best season (2011) for the second time and might even go beyond his own personal record.

The Argentine still has 15 games (or 16, if Fluminense advances to the Libertadores finals) this year. He also leads the South American tournament with 11 goals, while the second one has seven, but is already out of the tournament. Palmeiras’ Arthur is the active player closer, with five.

“When I wake up, I already think about scoring goals. When we start training, we visualize what we’re going to do on the field, what we need to do in training. I think every time I try to visualize the game and then score goals, every time the opportunity presents itself, I”m focused on that,” he told Sambafoot in an exclusive interview.

“I watch a lot of European football. Being among these incredible players who play so well and have won everything with their teams is a pleasure for me. It’s a reward for my work, my daily effort, and my contribution to the team on the field. I hope to continue this way, continue helping the team and scoring goals.”
