Germán Cano is a goal scorer in the box. That’s not news, but a recent statistic certifies the power of the Argentine forward of Fluminense: he is the top foreign goal scorer in Brazilian football in the 21st century.

With the goal scored against Sampaio Corrêa in the 1-0 victory of the last Copa Libertadores champion in the Campeonato Carioca, the striker reached 129 goals since his arrival in the country, including his seasons at Vasco da Gama and his current team.

In this way, he surpassed the Peruvian Paolo Guerrero, who until now led the goal scorers’ table since 2001 with 128 goals, as reported by the Brazilian portal Globo. Third is the Uruguayan Giorgian de Arrascaeta with 112 goals, and the only one who could improve his position in the short term, as he is still active at Flamengo.

Cano, 36, is also fourth on the list of top foreign goal scorers in Brasileirão, with 50 goals. The table is led by the Serbian Dejan Petkovic with 83 goals, followed by Guerrero with 56, and De Arrascaeta with 50.

Flu currently leads the Campeonato Carioca table with 17 points after five wins and two draws. On February 25th, they face Flamengo in a classic match for this tournament, while in April they will begin their defense in the Copa Libertadores.
