The classic match against Argentina was special for Yaya. Called up for the first time by coach Arthur Elias, the Brazilian National Team midfielder scored her first goal wearing the yellow jersey in the 5-1 rout against their continental rivals in the Copa Ouro quarterfinals.

In an interview with CBF TV, the player expressed her gratitude and shared the feeling of opening the scoring for Brazil, dedicating that moment to very special people.

“A unique feeling, a wonderful moment. I am very happy to have scored my first goal for the National Team. I dedicate this goal to all the people I love, who were with me in my toughest moments. They know it’s for them.”

A regular presence in the U-17 and U-20 categories, Yaya has already participated in major competitions, such as the U-20 World Cup in 2022, where the team secured third place. Her strong performances led her to take her first steps with the Main Team, a month after the World Cup campaign, when she was called up for friendlies against Canada.

“I think it’s largely the result of a lot of hard work. Going through the youth system helped me a lot. I feel very prepared today. I experienced a lot there. So, whether you want it or not, they kind of prepare you to arrive well in the main team.”

Yaya and her teammates await the winner between Mexico and Paraguay, whose outcome will be decided later on Sunday (3). However, during the same period, the Brazilian delegation will return to San Diego, California, where they will compete in the semifinals of the competition.
