Flamengo strolled to an emphatic 4-1 victory against Unión La Calera on Tuesday night at Maracanã. It was the second successive Libertadores win for Fla in the group stage and it leaves them isolated in the leadership of Group G.
It was a brilliant first half from Flamengo, with goals from Gabigol and Arrascaeta to put the hosts firmly in the lead going into the break.
However, Rubro-Negro dropped from their performances in the first half and allowed the Chilean outfit to pull one back through Saéz with the hopes of a comeback.
Fla held their ground in the midst of pressure until Gabigol grabbed his second of the night to make it 3-1. Before the end, there was still time for one more. Vitinho and Pedro came off the bench in the 81st and 83rd minutes respectively and combined for a great goal. This goal in particular was the highlight of the night. Vitinho made a quick break on the right side and found Pedro at the entrance of the box. The striker breezed past two players with some good footwork before making a neat lob over goalkeeper Arias to complete the rout at Maracanã.
With the victory, Flamengo move up to six points and continue to lead Group G. On four points, LDU are in second place, after claiming a 3-1 win over Vélez.
For their next game, Flamengo will take to the pitch on Saturday to face Volta Redonda for the semifinal of the Guanabara Cup. For Libertadores, their next outing is on Tuesday, against LDU, in Ecuador as they look to make it three wins from three in Group G.
