At the age of 26, Gabi Nunes will fulfill her dream of playing in a World Cup. The path itself was difficult. When she started playing, there were few incentives and opportunities, and the striker had other obstacles along the way. She suffered three serious knee injuries in a row over a three-year span. A big hiatus was taken from the pitch for her, who dreamed of shining in Brazil’s jersey.
After more than four years without being called up to the Brazilian National Team, the striker regained opportunity under the command of Pia Sundhage. In 2021, the return, in friendlies against Spain and Hungary. Two years later came the consecration.
“This World Cup represents a lot, I have very high expectations and I’m really happy. I don’t even have words, being living this with the girls, sharing this experience with them and being training all day is a good responsibility. I’m so happy to represent my family and friends who also dreamed of being here, and dream of us in that star, so I’m very happy and I try to enjoy every day, detail and opportunity”, says Gabi.

Intense training
For a week already living the dream of participating in the team that will defend Brazil in the World Cup, Gabi talks about the intensity of training and how the team arrives strong in search of the first star.
“We are already seeing a greater intensity of training compared to the first days. Of course, in the beginning you have to be careful about the trip, but now the intensity is already very high because we know the importance of maintaining a high level, physically too. We have few days to train some details for the debut in the World Cup. So, now it’s increasing and getting a little more and being prepared”, she says.
In the last friendly against Chile, in Brasilia, in the 4-0 victory, the striker scored a goal with her head in Gabi Nunes style.
“If there’s a little goal then the joy overflows, but I’m prepared if it’s to play, if not, then come in later to help. I’m prepared for whatever Pia wants to do with me on and off the field. I’m there!” , ends.
