The prolific Brazilian youth academy continues to nurture the world’s top soccer teams. One of the next young talents to migrate is right-back Pedro Lima, who is preparing to take the big leap from Sport Recife in the second division to Chelsea.

A member of the Brazilian team that played in the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia last year and called up to start training with the U-20s, he turns 18 on July 1st, which allows him to be transferred to Europe. The London club did not waste time and have already advanced in the negotiations.

Also sought after by Real Madrid, the Blues got ahead and have already reached an agreement on the salary part. The transfer fee remains to be settled, which would reach 10 million euros, although issues related to clauses and objectives that will be included in the contract have not yet been resolved.

The fact is that it is on its way to becoming the biggest sale in the history for a club in northeastern Brazil. Sport Recife beat Paysandú 1-0 in the last round of Série B and ranks fifth, with the same points as Santos, but one game less.

Pedro Lima was a starter against Paysandú and was substituted in the 14th minute of the second half, which could have been his last game for the club. In a short time, the player stood out for his technical ability, dribbling, attacking projection and defensive capacity.

Next Friday, June 14th, the Premier League transfer window opens, so the sale could be officially announced from that date. Chelsea, who have just hired Enzo Maresca as first team coach, could then give him a place in their youth teams or loan him out so he can gain playing time in European football, with Strasbourg sounding like an option.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
