PSG restored their hopes of progress to the Champions League round of 16 after a much needed 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Neymar opened the scoring and wrapped up the goals for the French giants on a night where another Brazilian in Fred was given his marching orders in the second half.
The red card changed the complexion of the game for Manchester United after Rashford had leveled matters just before the break.
Following the player disadvantage, it was inevitable PSG would get one over their opponents.
Neymar put PSG in the lead just six minutes into the game after a shot from Kylian Mbappe was deflected into his path and he made no mistake to fire home past the United goalie.
United leveled matters in the 32nd minute following a shot from Rashford that deflected off Danilo and went past PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
The Red Devils created more chances in the second half and Cavani even came close to scoring against his former side but he could only hit the woodwork. However, PSG got in the lead again after Marquinhos grabbed one in the 69th minute after a low drive from Diallo found him in the box.
United’s struggles got worse when Fred was sent off a minute later and Neymar finally got his second of the night in the final minutes following a swift counter-attack.
The result means PSG, Manchester United and Leipzig all find themselves level on nine points ahead of the final group stage match of the campaign and it could well go down to the wire. PSG need to win Instanbul Basaksehir to be guaranteed a spot no matter what in the round of 16.
