Fortaleza and Liga Deportiva Universitária de Quito (LDU), from Ecuador, decide this Saturday (28) the title of the 2023 Copa Sudamericana. The game that will bring together the two best teams in the competition, which featured 56 clubs, will be played at 5 pm (local time) at the Domingo Burgueño Miguel Stadium, in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

The club from the capital of Ceará is making history this season. In its second participation in the South American Championship, which has 22 editions, it has already reached the final with a remarkable campaign.

In 12 games, they won nine, drew two and lost just one. It was first in Group H in the initial phase and has the best attack in the World Cup, with 27 goals.

If they win the title, Fortaleza will consecrate the club, its State and the Northeast – it would be the first major international achievement for a club in the region, the first in a tournament with the approval of FIFA.

LDU has a tradition in South American competitions. They won the Libertadores in 2008 and was champion of the South American Championship in 2009.

A separate curiosity in this final can be noticed on the edge of the field. Both teams are led by Argentine coaches. Juan Pablo Vojvoda, 48 years old, is already one of the most revered coaches of all who have played for Fortaleza. On the LDU side, the mission is in the hands of Luis Zubeldía, 42 years old.

“Being in this final is of immense significance for the club and especially for the entire Northeast of Brazil. It’s an exciting time,” said Vojvoda.
