Former Santos and Fluminense player coached by Rooney scores his first goal in the United States

Attacking midfielder Gabriel Pirani scored his first goal for DC United on Wednesday night (20), in a 1-1 draw against Atlanta United. The team was losing until the 35th minute of the second half, when the chance appeared and the Brazilian revealed by Santos and former Fluminense found the net.

The  team is led by Manchester United’s historic idol, Wayne Rooney. DC United still has Belgian striker Christian Benteke, formerly of Liverpool.

“It was a very special moment for me. I’ve been adapting to the new moment in my career. I’ve worked hard since I arrived and I was crowned with that first goal. In the last game it ended up being disallowed, and today I was able to celebrate (laughs). I’m very grateful for the trust I received from the players and coaching staff”, said Pirani.

With the result, DC is in 9th place in the MLS Eastern conference standings. The team from the capital conquered 36 points in 30 games. They are in the last position for playoffs in the league, with four matches remaining to be played. DC United’s next match will be held this Saturday (23), against NY RedBull, in Washington, at 8:30 pm (Brasília time).

“MLS is very competitive and now the world is watching the League, due to the arrival of these great players. We will continue seeking to reach the playoffs, which is the goal of everyone here. Yesterday’s match was a demonstration of our will to get as far as possible in this championship. We keep working”, concluded the Brazilian.

DC United’s number 10 shirt, Pirani is on loan from Santos to the United States club until the end of the current season, with a fixed purchase price. Before the loan, the player was on loan to Fluminense at the request of coach Fernando Diniz.

The athlete has a contract with Peixe until December 2025. For Fluminense, he played in 24 matches and two goals scored.
