Center forward Léo Souza, a 26-year-old Brazilian, finished on a high note in the Chinese championship. Currently playing for Zhejiang, the player was one of the main names in the competition and lives with the expectation of being chosen as the star of the edition.

In 28 games, Léo scored 19 goals, leading the Chinese Super League artillery alone. In addition, he has also provided eight assists throughout the competition. The striker leads the team’s number of goal contributions in the tournament.

“I’m very happy with my performance this season and the top scorer, but I’m even happier for being able to help my team. I’m always working to improve on the field and contribute in the best way possible. Thanks to all this work, the results appear”, comments Léo.

The striker is in his third season in China and this is not the first time he has led the championship’s artillery numbers. During his time at Shandong Taishan, the center forward was also notable, scoring 10 goals. This season the center forward surpassed his mark and continues to be the Chinese league’s top scorer.

“I’m very happy to see the evolution that Chinese football has achieved, we have great players here and this makes the championship even more competitive. And this also makes us evolve to offer the best on the field and have a competitive season”, concludes the attacker.

The good phase in Asian football, however, is not new. For Albirex Niigata in 2019, Léo Souza was the top scorer in the three leagues (counting all divisions) in Japan, with 38 goals, which generated the MVP award in September and October. The previous year, with Gainare Tottori, he was also the top scorer with 24 balls in the net. The striker was the only player in history to be top scorer twice in a row in Japanese leagues (2018-2019).

Before becoming a standout on the Asian continent, Léo played through the youth ranks of some traditional clubs in Brazil, such as Santos and Corinthians, as well as Ituano, Red Bull Brasil and Rio Verde-GO. With the end of the Superliga, Léo now remains focused on the games valid for the Asian Champions League.
