Joelinton could well be the key to Newcastle’s Champions League success next season, according to former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore. The Eddie Howe-led Magpies have had a fantastic season, now in third place in the Premier League table. After their resounding 6-1 win over Spurs, there is now real confidence that Newcastle will be playing among the continent’s best next season.

Although every Newcastle player has an exceptional role in their success, Joelinton stood out in the match against Spurs by being named ‘player of the match’. With exceptional physical qualities, Joelinton has seen a remarkable improvement in his fitness after moving to a more central position shortly after Howe’s appointment at the end of 2021.

Joelinton has already completed his best season in a black and white shirt, directly contributing to 10 goals in all competitions. With him growing, Newcastle are now in a strong position to compete for football’s biggest prize next season.

Collymore even predicted that if Newcastle play in the Champions League next season, Joelinton will be their most important player due to his exceptional qualities which suit this competition perfectly. Joelinton has scored 21 goals and provided 11 assists in 152 games all.

“Joelinton is a player with exceptional physical attributes. He has a bit of tenacity about him and if a manager puts their arm around him and says ‘you are the best player in your position in the country’ he’s going to shine for you, and that is exactly what Howe has done with him, and now we’re seeing the effects of that,” he said.
